It is the process by which the Support Coordinator chooses a broker to help you access the additional resources you need to function.
The Support Broker will complete the following tasks:
1. Help you manage Self-Directed Employees (SDE):
- Plan how many staff you need and when
- Recruit and hire your SDEs, make ads/flyers, screen applicants, and
- Interview together with you, help complete employment paperwork to
the fiscal agent
- Train and manage your SDEs as applicable
2. Community Connections:
- Finding local resources that are for people with and without disabilities
not just disability providers
- Planning based on resources that match your needs/preferences
- Making sure community businesses/vendors can be paid through your
budget by fiscal intermediary
3. Maintaining Self-Directed Life:
- Creating Circles of Support — a community of friendship, not just
paid staff
- Planning for future supports, independent living
- Locating non-DDD help like energy, food, and clothing assistance
